I am a knife snob about quality - and that means sharpness, ability to maintain sharpness, balance, edge, construction, ability to clean, etc. and I have all manner of knives from an inherited high carbon, bone handle, hand forged antique, to an ulu, to a series of Mac knives that used to be my favorite. I have actively disliked all of the big store brand name knives that I have ever used because looking at price (way to high) for quality as a kitchen tool (moderate at best) they are nothing to spend money on.
These Calaphon knives are wonderful. I will admit that I got them on sale, but even at Amazon prices they are exceptional price for value. If you want quality knives that you will use then buy these, if you want trendy, then just select the highest price.

Immediately upon opening these knives I could get a sense of the quality. The handles are high quality resin and the blades are razor sharp right out of the package. 30 bucks will never fetch this kind of product at a big box store or bed bath and beyond.

These are great knives for the price. The 5" is excellent for chopping small things like garlic and fresh herbs, while the 7" breezes through meat and vegetables with ease.
