Perfect for the reasons I purchased it, cooking pasta and steaming veggies. With the pasta insert I can steam a whole head of cauliflower and a big head or two of broccoli all at the same time. I also like that I can cook pasta, linguine, drain the water and replace the pasta insert with linguine back in pot, put the glass lid on and it stays warm in pot. Also, great for corn on the cob. I haven't used the smaller steamer insert at all. I don't use the pot for soups or stews, I have a Calphalon 10-quart Dutch Oven for that (pot roast and chili). I am especially happy to find this set after purchasing an 8-qt pasta insert a couple of years ago that I thought would fit my old Calphalon 8-qt stock pot only to discover that it only fits a Calphalon Contemporary 8-qt pot. That was a waste of money because it's never been used. However, I'm VERY happy with this set because it's perfect for the reasons I bought it and I highly recommend it. It's easy enough to clean with hot soapy water, then I use the dishwasher just to drain it.

This is a great set. The bottom of the sauce pan is plenty thick for browning and sauteing. Each part fits together well. The pasta strainer lifts out easily (but don't over-fill with water when cooking pasta or it will boil over), and the folding inner handles on the steamer basket are handy. Highly recommended.

VERY large stock pot. You can cook a lot of things in this, but as a pasta cooker I have to agree with other reviews.....it's better to use without the strainer. You need ALOT of water to fill, and you can only cook maybe 1.5 lbs. of pasta because of the strainer. It also takes about 25 minutes to come to boil on a gas stove with the lid on. Not good for small pasta cooking. Unfortunately not using the strainer negates the purpose of this pot. This is the ONLY reason I purchased this item in the first place. :(

It is however, great for cooking alot of potatoes. You can make tons of mashed/whipped potatoes. Only problem here is, you will have to transfer to another pot or bowl to mix in because you cannot use a beater in this pot without ruining the finish and the pot itself.

I have steamed seafood in this, and it's wonderful. I have not done any veggies yet, but I am sure it will do a great job. You can also make sauce in it as well as soups and chili's.

For a stock pot, steamer, pasta cooker....it is a good deal. It also comes with a lid. It is quality construction, and will last a lifetime as any Calphalon pan will if taken care of.

I love these little baby pans! They're small, stack inside each other, and are of the highest, sturdiest tri-ply quality. I own four of these and they come in handy for tons of things like single servings and appetizers. As I am forever on a mission to impress my in laws in the kitchen (because nothing seems to ever impress them whatsoever), they have come through for me even during breakfast visits. These were perfect for Julia Child's multiple egg recipes--on the stove, add a little butter, drop two eggs in (along with a bit of cream or herbs), then pop under the broiler for just a minute or so. Voila! Breakfast in under five minutes, served beautifully and elegantly in its own stainless dish. I also like to use these in order to keep my portions under control. When eating something like pasta, using these as your plate gives you the perfect amount to eat without losing your head. And the price was great too. Love them!

Perfect size for an individual portion. Non-stick pans are very bad for you. Non-stick pans kill pet birds and they'll kill you too, it just takes longer. Over time the non-stick coating comes off in your food, little by little, and you eat it. Not so with these little pans. Everyone in my family eats something different so individual serving pans are a must. Easy clean up too. I hand wash mine. Should last forever!

The only drawback to these pans is that they are smaller than advertised. They aren't roughly 6x9 oval pans; they're 6" round pans. When I first looked at their description I would have passed on them if I had known their true size. But I didn't return them because they look great and they do seem to be good quality.

Very good quality pans. I like the handles and you can hang the pans from a pot rack. I use these pans multiple times a week, mainly to make eggs "sur la plat" for breakfast or a light meal. Heat pan on the stove top, add butter or oil and (optionally) saute a small amount of onions, peppers or a few spoonfuls of almost any leftovers. Add 1-3 eggs (crack the eggs into a small dish first if you want to be extra careful not to get broken yolks or pieces of shell), and salt, and cook without stirring until whites are beginning to set. Finish by (optionally) topping with a little cheese and then broiling or toasting in a toaster oven until done. This is super easy, easier to do than to describe! Remove from heat and eat right from the pan. Remember the pan is hot, you might need to set it on a potholder at the table. I'm sure these pans would be good for all sorts of single serving dishes, including tapas of course.

I was opening a bottle of wine with a stubborn cork and the wings broke off! The corkscrew has a very nice look and feel, but the large wings taper to a very narrow point at the hinges. And since it is made of a cheap cast metal and not stainless steel, it is very weak at the tapered area. Supposedly has a lifetime warranty, but I have not sent it back yet...

This is a great shaker, the largest I could find, and it feels very good in your hand. The problem is that it is just about impossible to get the top off. It's hard when it's dry but you can get enough grip that it's not to bad, but when it's wet you can't get a grip and it is so hard to get off that it's not worth using. You should pass on this shaker unless you are going to get the boston shaker version.

I am a knife snob about quality - and that means sharpness, ability to maintain sharpness, balance, edge, construction, ability to clean, etc. and I have all manner of knives from an inherited high carbon, bone handle, hand forged antique, to an ulu, to a series of Mac knives that used to be my favorite. I have actively disliked all of the big store brand name knives that I have ever used because looking at price (way to high) for quality as a kitchen tool (moderate at best) they are nothing to spend money on.

These Calaphon knives are wonderful. I will admit that I got them on sale, but even at Amazon prices they are exceptional price for value. If you want quality knives that you will use then buy these, if you want trendy, then just select the highest price.

Sometime I struggle about product reviews. Not so much about how to describe them, but how to rate them in term of numbers of star. Should a superb $30 wooden spoon be rated higher than a $1 mediocre spoon? (As a matter of fact, I do have a $1 wood spoon) Ultimately, I examine my overall attitude toward the purchase, so I do consider both the cost and the quality of the products.

Considered this utensil set was sold for $9.99 and I bought it as part of the 4-for-3 promotion, I paid less than $9 for three wooden utensils -- extremely affordable. In term of quality, they don't seem to be as good as the ones sold by Oxo, but the Oxo ones are more expensive. Of the three utensils, the slotted spoon is of the poorer quality (in my case anyway). The slotted spoon is made of rougher and porous wood. It cracked slightly (1/8th inch) after its first use. It has "healed" itself after contraction. I am not sure if it will crack again when I use it next time. I simply don't have the need for the slotted spoon often and have not tried it since. The solid spoon is nice. It has not cracked or splintered. In fact, the solid spoon has survived the break-in period and developed a very smooth surface. The turner has not received significant use, but it appears to be also made of a passable wood piece.

I am giving this Calphalon wood utensil set a 4 star rating because it is very affordable, though wood quality is average. On quality alone, I would only give it a 3-star score.

For disclosure, all three utensils have been treated with mineral oil, beeswax or tung oil before their first use.

This is a great, basic set of utensils. What can one say about them? They're wooden utensils, strictly functional. However, I really like the spoons because they curve in much deeper than your typical wooden spoons that you find in any given store. When I am sampling a sauce or broth right out of the pot, it isn't spilling over the edges as if it were on a flatter surface. Very nice rounded set for a great price.
