"Great for the price" 2009-06-21
By Robert A. Leibowitz (Port Ewen, NY USA)
I got this as a gift in December for my wife and I think I use it more often than she does. Great for cutting fine items and stays relatively sharp, though I am someone who is constantly sharpening my blades regardless. I would buy this again for myself or as a gift and am thinking of trying the 5" version of it as well.
"Outstanding!" 2009-06-21

This is by far, the best knife I've ever purchased. It's actually a shame to call it just a "knife" as it would be like calling filet mignon just a steak. It is a culinary cutting tool that is a neccessity for every kitchen. A friend recommended the Calphalon to us and I was hesitant because I've never spent that much on a knife before but it is worth every penny. Happy meal-preparation!

I wanted to try a Santoku-style knife and chose the Calphalon after factoring quality vs price. I'm glad I made this purchase. Food prep is fun again. The knife weighs 8 oz. and balances slightly aft of the point where the handle meets the bolster. The blade holds a good edge. The synthetic handle is comfortable and provides secure control even when wet. My traditional chef's knife is now crying from loneliness (although it will always have its honored place in the kitchen).
"Good Value" 2008-12-01

Good value. I wanted to add a santoku to my Henckels 4 Star set, but the price for a Henckels 7" santoku was 3 times the price of this blade. Balance is good and grip is comfortable. Full tang through handle. Easy to put an edge on and holds it as well as any knife I own. When comparing it to the Henckels set, I believe no one other than a metallurgist could tell the difference.
"Nice" 2008-09-30

I gave the one I bought locally to a friend. Handles nice and the shape has made it my favorite for general use. Got a paring knfe with it for free. Nice.
